Special Moments of Life… | Winter Park BASE CAMP- children’s cancer support group

A few weeks back, Wendy and I were asked if we would donate our time to cover a Christmas party celebration for a very special group of children and their families. BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation provides love, friendship, understanding and much needed support to local children and their families. They’re located at: 140 N Orlando Avenue Suite 120 Winter Park, FL 32789. At the event, we had an opportunity to talk with the local Program Coordinator- Cindy Crespo- Whitaker. For the many years that Cindy has dedicated her time, energy and talents to this organization, both my wife and I were truly impressed with how this group of people support one another- patients, siblings, families and friends. The happiness and joy of sharing, caring, conversation, laughter, food and dancing was awesome! One comment that was shared with us stand’s out- “I can’t isolate the cancer gene, but I can bring a child in a hospital a cup cake”…

When we see people who are caring and giving of their time and talents like Cindy and so many others who support BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation in Winter Park Florida, it’s good for the soul- a reality check of what is really important in life. Relationships are important, good times are important, caring and helping in any way possible is important. When we find ourselves having available time or resources lets think about making a difference in someones life- a smile, a cupcake :), a small gift, these are special moments in life. A good friend challenged me many years ago to give back to the community. Since then, it has become a passion of mine- to see how I can make a difference in someones life. The American Cancer Society, Welfare to Work, At Risk Teens, Health Care Reform, these are just a few of the causes I have been fortunate to work with; all rewarding and blessed experiences in my life. My wife Wendy has a heart that is tenfold the size of mine with too many causes to mention ranging from animal care and rights to feeding and loving children and beyond. That is just another reason I fell in love with her- she is a great person and an awesome photographer too!:)

So my friends, if you are reading this- thank you. Thank you to Cindy Crespo- Whitaker the program director at BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation in Winter Park Florida for the love and talents she is sharing with everyone at BASE CAMP. These are life long relationships; the very Special Moments of Life that really matter.:)

Please contact Cindy @ 407.408.0467 and see how you can help make a difference in the life of a beautiful child.

And now She’s All Grown Up…| Orlando Wedding Photographer

So, we all now the older we get times passes even quicker… C’mon- you all know as much as you hate that cliche it’s true, so just keep reading!

The little girl that I knew since she was about four years old? reached out to me on FB about a year ago… She played with my two children from a very young age in DeLand Florida, went on to graduate from Stetson University with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and now works for a private practice in the same town working primarily with children and adolescence- how cool is that! I am very proud to call her my friend and our fun “Model of the Day”.

She showed up late (yeah ok- it was the construction on I4 and Fairbanks;)but with a smile on her face and a great attitude as usual. How can so many people pull that off day after day?!(the smile and great attitude). Anyway, once she slipped into her wedding gown, the little girl I had known since she was four years of age had turned into a princess… just beautiful.

Our afternoon adventures of a fun and very cool photo shoot would begin at Kraft Azalea Gardens in Winter Park Florida. A truly beautiful garden park on the lake with majestic trees, incredible lakefront homes and an out door coliseum type of structure that is frequently used for yes- outdoor weddings! I love it when a plan comes together:)

With my awesome photographer wife [no, I am not biased!:)P] instructing me on where to position our outdoor lighting and talking with our model on where and how to pose- we were destined to have a great photo shot on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in sunny Florida :). Even the hundred or so gnats that somehow found their way up between the bridal train and gown couldn’t spoil the photo shoot (I am glad our model didn’t see them!). Naturally I had to explain to her what I was doing once I started brushing them off her rear:)and she didn’t even seem to care. Which proves- you put a girl in-front of a camera in a photo shoot and it’s all good!!!

She was awesome, a great sport and a very beautiful bride for a day…
Do you know who she is? We’ve been posting a few teasers on FB- Share your thoughts with us, let us know what Valderrama Photography can do for you AND… Like us on FB!

Until our next adventure… from Central Florida W&E:)
